New Hapoel Beer Sheva/Dimona Coach Doug Spradley Sees Potential Despite Late Start

Hapoel Beer Sheva/Dimona basketball coach Doug Spradley acknowledged the team's late start and incomplete roster following their 83-69 loss to Hapoel Jerusalem in the Winner Cup. The team, which only began practicing together two weeks ago after resolving financial issues that nearly prevented their participation in the league, is still missing two foreign players. Spradley, who was hired a month ago and previously coached in Germany and the Netherlands, winning multiple titles with ZZ Leiden, stated that despite the loss and the significant work ahead, he is encouraged by the players' effort and willingness to learn.

The team secured their first win four days prior against Maccabi Ashdod in overtime, showcasing their fighting spirit. Spradley emphasized the importance of teamwork over individual scoring and noted that the current situation places more responsibility on the Israeli players. He described the Israeli league as having a good professional level with talented players and a solid style of basketball, despite varying arena conditions.

Spradley expressed his excitement about the opportunity and the challenge of building a team identity from scratch. Having coached for 26 years, he is motivated by the competitive nature of the sport, the development of players, and the desire to positively influence them both on and off the court. He believes that once the roster is complete, the team will be even stronger and more competitive.
