Maccabi Haifa will open training on Tuesday and undergo full medical tests on Monday as preparations begin for the 2026/27 season, which starts with Toto Cup matches. But alongside the squad’s summer reset, the club is dealing with the financial weight of three players who are not part of its plans: Matthias Nahuel, Xander Severina and Manuel "Show" Capomene.
Nahuel spent the second half of last season on loan at Jagiellonia Białystok in Poland, Severina was loaned to Casa Pia earlier in the season and barely played, and Show is on loan this season at Kocaelispor in Turkey. The combined annual salary of the three is about 1 million euros, while Haifa’s total investment in them, including transfer fees, is said to exceed 5 million euros.
The club has already informed the players’ agents that they are not in the professional plans for the coming season and wants to recoup as much of its investment as possible. Nahuel has interest from Poland and Show from Turkey, but no purchase offer has yet been submitted.
Separately, winger Kenji Gorre will miss the start of preseason for the right reasons after earning minutes at the World Cup and helping Curaçao secure its first-ever point in a draw against Ecuador. Haifa players watched the match and congratulated him afterward, and he is considered a very popular figure in the dressing room.
