Yemen's Houthis Strike Multiple Saudi Targets, Including Riyadh Airport

Yemen's Houthi rebels launched attacks across eight locations in Saudi Arabia overnight, marking a significant escalation since the conflict began. The strikes targeted Riyadh, Al-Kharj, Farsan, Abha, Jizan, Khamis Mushait, Yanbu, and Al-Ula. Residents in the Saudi capital reported hearing explosions, and flights at Riyadh's international airport were temporarily suspended.

This development comes as the Houthis are also expanding their threat to international shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. According to a source within the Yemeni armed forces, the group may have begun mining this crucial maritime route after securing control of coastal areas and islands. If confirmed, vessels in the Red Sea would face not only drone and missile threats but also the danger of mines.

The Houthis claim to have targeted Saudi Aramco facilities in Yanbu with numerous ballistic missiles and drones, alleging significant fires and destruction occurred. This broader campaign allows the Houthis to pose multiple serious threats to Saudi Arabia simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Israel has stated it does not plan a preemptive strike against the Houthis, despite their growing influence and proximity to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The Israeli defense establishment prioritizes forming a regional coalition, though this stance could change if Israel faces a direct threat. Israel's cautious approach is partly due to previous large-scale strikes failing to significantly degrade Houthi military capabilities.
