Houthi Rebels Launch Missiles at Saudi Airport Following Saudi Strike in Yemen
On Monday, the Houthi movement fired missiles at Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia, following an earlier Saudi airstrike on the international airport in Sanaa, Yemen's capital. The Yemeni Ministry of Defense reported that its armed forces targeted the runway at Sanaa airport to prevent the landing of an Iranian aircraft and urged civilians near the airport to evacuate. The Yemeni Foreign Ministry condemned Saudi Arabia, stating, "The Saudi regime has declared war and must bear full responsibility."
Reports from Yemen indicated that several parts of the Sanaa airport were damaged in the Saudi attacks. The Houthis' military spokesperson declared that the Saudi strike ended the de-escalation phase and warned that these attacks would not go unanswered. The Houthi political office accused Saudi Arabia of attempting to block their delegation's return from Tehran, where they had attended the funeral of the former supreme leader, calling the Saudi actions blatant aggression violating sovereignty and international law.
The Houthis further condemned the attack as reflecting the deep hatred and criminality of the Saudi regime and its backers, particularly the United States. They described the strike as part of the American agenda to maintain the unjust blockade on Yemen, which has lasted over a decade.
