Israel Falls to Slovenia in Davis Cup Matches
The Israeli Davis Cup team began its campaign with a loss to Slovenia, dropping the first two singles matches. Amit Weintraub, ranked 589th globally, was defeated by Slovenia's Blaz Rola, ranked 511th, with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Weintraub struggled to find his rhythm, losing serve in the second game of the first set and again in the final game of the second set to secure the win for Rola.
In the second match, Yair Kimhi, ranked 716th, faced Filip Planinsek. Despite a closely contested first set that went to a tie-break, which Kimhi lost, he was unable to recover and fell 7-6, 6-1. The second set saw Kimhi's spirit broken after losing serve early, leading to his defeat.
These losses put Israel in a precarious position. If they lose one more match in the series against Slovenia, they will face a relegation playoff in Group 2 in February. The winner of the series advances to Group 1.
