Moroccan Islamist Group Slams "Normalization" With Israel, Calls for Reversal

The Justice and Charity Group (Al Adl Wal Ihssane), a prominent Moroccan Islamist organization, has strongly criticized the elevation of diplomatic relations with Israel to the ambassadorial level. The group views this move as an escalation that contradicts the Moroccan people's stance on the Palestinian cause, labeling it "continued normalization" and a provocation to Moroccan sentiment.

In a statement issued by its Guidance Council and signed by Secretary-General Mohamed Abbadi, the group declared its rejection of this diplomatic upgrade, considering it a transgression of "red lines." They emphasized that the Palestinian issue, particularly Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, holds a special place in the hearts of Moroccans.

The Justice and Charity Group further argued that maintaining and upgrading diplomatic ties with Israel amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza constitutes "indirect participation" in the war. They accused Israel of committing crimes against Palestinians and desecrating Al-Aqsa Mosque, stating they disavow any endorsement of these actions.

The organization called upon scholars, intellectuals, community leaders, and the Moroccan public to voice their opposition to the diplomatic advancement. They urged the use of "all peaceful means" to pressure for the annulment of normalization agreements and the expulsion of Israelis.

The group reiterated its unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause and Al-Aqsa Mosque, asserting that Palestine remains their "compass" and reaffirming their rejection of the normalization process. The statement was released in Rabat on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
