Israeli Representation Moves to New Rabat Office Named After Anti-Zionist Leader Amid Morocco Controversy

The Israeli diplomatic mission in Rabat, Morocco, recently relocated to a new official headquarters in the Souissi neighborhood, situated on a street named after a prominent opposition leader who strongly opposed Zionism and supported the Palestinians. This move comes five years after Israel and Morocco officially renewed diplomatic relations under the Abraham Accords framework. Although both countries reopened liaison offices with intentions to upgrade to full embassies, that process has not yet been completed.

Previously, the Israeli office operated from a location on Al-Nakhil Street in the Hay Riyad district before moving to the new complex in Souissi. The relocation has sparked controversy among Moroccan groups opposing normalization with Israel, especially amid ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization condemned the move to Ben Baraka Street as a "pathetic attempt to harm the collective memory of the Moroccan people." This reflects broader tensions within Moroccan society regarding the normalization of ties with Israel during heightened regional conflict.
