Israeli-Ukrainian Man Detained, Conscripted into Ukrainian Army

A 49-year-old Breslov Hasid with Israeli citizenship was detained at the Romanian border while attempting to return to Israel after Rosh Hashanah in Uman, Ukraine. The man, born in Ukraine and who later became religiously observant, was stopped when a document check revealed he was subject to mandatory military conscription in Ukraine. His family has lost all contact with him since his detention, according to the "HaPargod" news outlet.

A source familiar with the situation explained that the man was speaking Ukrainian when border officials took him aside for further checks, discovered his conscription obligation, and arrested him. His family is reportedly very worried and has been unable to communicate with him.

Breslov Hasidim community leaders and relatives are seeking assistance to secure his release. One community activist stated they have approached numerous rabbis and activists in Ukraine without success. Friends and acquaintances are urgently appealing to influential figures in Ukraine to help free the man and reunite him with his family in Israel.

Another source involved in the case described the situation as tragic, noting the lack of connections and the family's inability to afford legal representation, suggesting the man might remain detained for an extended period. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed the family that their priority is to locate him, as his current whereabouts are unknown.
