Lucy Aharish: A Look at the Trailblazing Arab-Israeli News Anchor

Lucy Aharish, a prominent Israeli Arab journalist and television presenter, is being highlighted on the occasion of her birthday with ten facts about her life and career. Aharish made history as the first Arab Muslim news anchor on mainstream Israeli television, broadcasting in Hebrew.

Born and raised in Dimona to an Arab Muslim family, she was the only Arab student in her elementary school. At the age of five, she survived a terrorist attack when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at her family's car in the Gaza Strip.

Aharish holds a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate in theater and Hebrew literature from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and is also a graduate of the "Koteret" School of Journalism. In 2015, she was chosen to light a torch at the state's Independence Day ceremony on Mount Herzl, a significant public honor.

She is married to actor Tzachi Halevy, and they have a son named Adam. Aharish has worked as a reporter and anchor for News13 and also presented in English for the international network i24NEWS.
