Channel 14 Reporter Shir'el Lalom Nahir Announces Departure After Five Years
Shir'el Lalom Nahir, a prominent field and settlement reporter for Israel's Channel 14, officially announced her decision to leave the channel after more than five years. In a farewell post shared on social media on Tuesday, she reflected on her journey from joining the channel, then known as Channel 20, to witnessing its growth and rise in ratings after moving to new studios in Modi'in. Lalom Nahir described the early days as a "few against many" and recalled the symbolic transition from modest beginnings to a more professional setup, marking a significant milestone for the channel.
Throughout her tenure, Lalom Nahir faced challenging personal experiences, including an incident where she was attacked while pregnant, which received national attention. She expressed gratitude to the channel's management, colleagues, family, and especially the residents of Judea and Samaria, hilltop communities, farms, and outposts who trusted her to voice their stories.
In the latter part of her message, she shared moral reflections shaped by her communication studies since 2019. She emphasized the importance of maintaining inner freedom and fear of God when entering public roles, warning against succumbing to power and influence. Lalom Nahir advised future public figures and journalists to prioritize meaningful investigative work and exposing true abuses of power over chasing popular scoops or screen time.
Her departure marks another significant change in Channel 14's reporting team, highlighting the evolving landscape of Israeli media and the personal and ethical challenges faced by journalists covering sensitive and complex issues.
