Israel’s National Civilian Service Authority held a recognition event in Jerusalem for civilian service volunteers from the Haredi community, as part of the Week of Appreciation for national and civilian service. The ceremony was attended by Chief Rabbi of Israel David Lau, Authority Director-General Reuven Pinski, Friends CEO Shimi Geshied, representatives of service organizations, and hundreds of Haredi civilian service members.
The event honored volunteers serving in security, rescue and social roles, whom the Authority said make a significant contribution to Israel’s national and social life while preserving their Haredi way of life. The program also included professional sessions on career guidance, career development and preparation for life after service, giving participants practical tools for entering the labor market and continuing into follow-on tracks.
An excellence conference was also held, and certificates were awarded to standout service members for their work, dedication and contribution. Among those recognized were Yonatan Chait, an MDA ambulance and rapid response vehicle driver; Moshe Friedman, a police patrol officer; and Moshe Weiner, an United Hatzalah emergency responder and paramedic instructor.
Pinski said the volunteers are “an example and model of commitment, responsibility and contribution to the state,” and called for expanding service tracks and support after service. Geshied said their work shows it is possible to combine “meaningful values” with direct contribution to Israel’s security and society. The Authority said it will continue broadening service options and strengthening the support network for volunteers.
