A recognition event in Jerusalem marked the appreciation week for Haredi participants in Israel’s civil service. The ceremony was attended by Israel’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi David Lau, National Civil Service Authority Director General Reuven Pinski, Friends CEO Shimi Gashied, representatives of partner organizations, and hundreds of civil service volunteers.
The event focused on volunteers from the Haredi community who serve in security, rescue, and social organizations while maintaining their religious lifestyle. Alongside the tribute, the program included professional sessions on career guidance, career development, and preparing for life after service, aimed at giving participants practical tools for entering the workforce and pursuing further paths after they finish their term.
An excellence forum also recognized standout volunteers with certificates for their dedication and contribution. Among those honored were Yonatan Chait of Magen David Adom, cited for his service as an ambulance and rapid-response vehicle driver; Moshe Friedman of Israel Police, recognized for his work as a patrol officer; and Moshe Weiner of United Hatzalah, honored for serving as an emergency responder and medic instructor.
Pinski said the Haredi volunteers are “an example and model of commitment, responsibility and contribution to the state” while preserving their way of life, and added that the authority will keep expanding service tracks and support after service ends. Gashied said their work shows that it is possible to combine “meaningful values” with a direct contribution to Israel’s security and society. The National Civil Service Authority said it will continue strengthening volunteer support and broadening opportunities for meaningful service.
