Hapoel Tel Aviv Coach Apologizes After Humiliating Loss to Maccabi
Hapoel Tel Aviv's basketball team suffered a humiliating 101-83 defeat to rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Social Super Cup on Thursday, leaving a poor impression just a week before the EuroLeague season begins. Following the decisive loss, head coach Dimitris Itoudis announced disciplinary measures for his players, including an 8 AM practice and a video session the following morning. Team owner Ofer Yanai also addressed the players in the locker room after the game.
Itoudis expressed deep disappointment with his team's performance, stating, "I want to apologize to the fans, the community, and the owners. It was very embarrassing in terms of performance. There is a way to lose a game. Maccabi is a good team and congratulations to them, but for us it was embarrassing. Many things need to change before the EuroLeague."
The Greek coach vowed that the team would present a significantly different and improved performance when they open their EuroLeague campaign against Bayern Munich next Thursday.
