Supreme Court Rejects Bereaved Father's Petition Against UNRWA Building

Israel's Supreme Court has dismissed a petition filed by a bereaved father seeking the evacuation of a UNRWA building in Jerusalem. The court stated that since the Jerusalem Municipality had initially requested the building's evacuation and was not a petitioner, it should approach the court directly if it deemed it necessary.

Examples cited include cases concerning the closure of UNRWA facilities, the entry of the Red Cross into prisons, and the admission of food into Gaza, where the directly impacted entities or individuals were not petitioners.

"B'Tselem" organization commented that the Supreme Court provides relief to terrorists while bypassing standing procedures, yet disqualifies a petition aimed at protecting Israeli citizens' security due to a procedural technicality that they claim is regularly disregarded by judges. The petition was dismissed on the grounds of lack of standing, despite the building having already been evacuated.
