Bank Leumi Extends Trading Program After 50% Jump in Share Turnover
Bank Leumi announced it will extend its "Tailor Made" market-making program on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange for an additional year. This decision follows a successful first year of operation, during which key metrics related to the liquidity and quality of trading in the bank's stock showed significant improvement.
The "Tailor Made" program is designed to enhance the tradability of securities through focused market-making activities. Its goals include increasing market depth, improving trading conditions, and boosting the stock's attractiveness to a diverse range of investors, including institutional players and international funds.
Data from the program's inaugural year indicates a substantial rise in the average daily trading volume of Bank Leumi shares during continuous trading. The volume increased from approximately NIS 115 million per day in the year prior to the program's launch to an average of about NIS 170 million over the last 12 months. For comparison, during the same period, shares of banks not participating in the program saw an approximately 35% increase in continuous trading volume.
Overall trading volume in Bank Leumi's stock grew by about 40% compared to the year before the program. Specifically, continuous trading volume, excluding block and coordinated trades, surged by approximately 50%. Improvements were also noted in market depth indicators, with the visible quantity in the order book increasing by about 25% and bid-ask spreads narrowing by roughly 10% over the year.
Furthermore, the program positively impacted foreign investor activity. Their share in Bank Leumi's stock trading rose from an average of around 36% at the beginning of 2025 to over 43% in recent months, marking a roughly 20% increase in global investor engagement. Barkay Capital and Meitav are the market makers operating under the "Tailor Made" program for Bank Leumi.
