Bank Leumi to Offer Cryptocurrency Trading via Leumi Trade App Starting 2027
Bank Leumi announced a partnership with international firm Galaxy Digital to provide digital asset trading services to its customers, including those of its subsidiary PEPPER. This initiative, a first in the Israeli banking sector, will enable trading of selected cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana through the Leumi Trade app. The service is planned to launch in early 2027, pending regulatory approval from the Bank of Israel.
The collaboration involves integrating Galaxy Digital’s blockchain infrastructure and custody services, including Galaxy Custody (formerly GK8), into Bank Leumi’s systems. This setup will allow customers to buy, hold, and sell cryptocurrencies securely within a dedicated section of the Leumi Trade app. The custody of digital assets and management of private keys will rely on Galaxy’s institutional-grade infrastructure.
Bank Leumi views this move as a key part of its financial innovation strategy. Maya Rabi, Head of Strategy at Bank Leumi, emphasized the growing role of digital assets in the global financial system and the bank’s commitment to providing regulated and secure access to these assets. The development reflects a global trend where traditional financial institutions are incorporating digital asset infrastructure to offer controlled access to cryptocurrencies. Over recent years, the crypto sector has undergone institutionalization with enhanced security and custody solutions meeting stringent banking standards. Integrating crypto trading within a banking app marks a significant step toward blending traditional finance with digital asset markets.
