Former IDF Spokesperson Daniel Hagari Considered for Political List

Former IDF Spokesperson Daniel Hagari was a surprise candidate considered for the "Yashar" Knesset list led by Gadi Eisenkot until the final moments before the list's submission deadline. Eisenkot and Hagari held discussions about the possibility of Hagari joining the list, with Eisenkot's internal polling suggesting Hagari could provide an electoral boost. Hagari, a retired Brigadier General, ultimately decided against entering politics to pursue private endeavors.

The close relationship between Eisenkot and Hagari dates back to Eisenkot's tenure as Chief of Staff, during which Hagari served as his personal aide and later commanded the elite Shayetet 13 naval commando unit. This personal connection was evident during the recent war when Hagari, as IDF Spokesperson, addressed the death of Eisenkot's son, Gal, in Gaza.

Eisenkot's polling also indicated that Hili Tropper could contribute electorally to the list and the bloc. Unlike Hagari, Tropper was successfully integrated into the list alongside other Eisenkot associates. However, despite the poll results and Eisenkot's efforts to persuade him, Hagari's personal decision prevailed, leading to the shelving of the plan just hours before the list's submission.

Hagari stated, "As I have previously stated, I have never had any intention of entering politics." A representative for Eisenkot's "Yashar" party commented, "We will not provide details on private conversations."
