Smotrich Warns of October Escalation Following Settler Eviction

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has sharply criticized the Jewish National Fund's (JNF) decision to evacuate a farming outpost near Majdal Krum, located in northern Israel. Smotrich characterized the move as "backing down" in the face of threats and drew a parallel to the security assumptions that preceded the October 7th Hamas attacks.

"This is exactly what is happening now in the Galilee," Smotrich stated, arguing that ignoring violent threats and seeking artificial peace leads to disastrous consequences, akin to the "terrible massacre of October 7th." He specifically cited an incident where a Jewish shepherd was allegedly removed from JNF land due to disturbances and threats from Arab residents, equating it to the broader security failures against groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.

Smotrich further warned about the proliferation of illegal weapons within Israel's Arab community, estimating over a million unlicensed firearms. He pointed to "dangerous deep currents of nationalism, anti-Zionism, and anti-Semitism" among Arab citizens of Israel, cautioning that attempts to buy short-term peace could result in an "explosion" in October of next year, potentially involving armed individuals within Israel.

The Finance Minister pledged to take action to rectify the situation in the Galilee and the Negev regions. "I intend, God willing, to put an end to this," he declared, promising to restore governance and "Judaize" the Galilee, drawing on his experience in the West Bank. He vowed to end what he described as decades of neglect and "Arab takeover" in the Galilee.
