October 7 Victims Can Claim Disability Benefits

Israel's Ministry of Justice, through its Legal Aid Department, has issued a call for individuals affected by the October 7, 2023, events to apply for disability benefits. This applies to the families of those killed, released hostages, and hostages who are not currently employed or have reduced their work hours in the past three years due to health conditions.

Eligible individuals are encouraged to submit applications to determine their disability status and receive a pension from the pension fund. Applications can be filed online with the relevant insurance company. While individuals can apply independently, legal assistance is available through lawyers representing applicants under the Ministry of Justice's legal aid system. Since October 7, the legal aid system has opened over 3,600 cases related to the war, including those involving families of the deceased, hostages, released hostages, and families of soldiers killed in action. The legal support offered encompasses comprehensive assistance and guidance in exercising rights, including matters of personal status, obtaining benefits from the National Insurance Institute (Bituah Leumi) or the Ministry of Defense, financial and housing issues, insurance claims, guardianship, and matters concerning minors.
