Israel Offers Aid to Oct. 7 Victims for Disability Benefits

Israel's Ministry of Justice, through its Legal Aid Department, has issued a call for individuals affected by the October 7, 2023, events to apply for disability benefits. This applies to the families of those killed, released hostages, and hostages themselves, who are either not currently employed or have reduced their work hours in the past three years due to health issues stemming from the attacks.

Eligible individuals are encouraged to submit applications to their pension fund to determine disability status and receive a pension. The application process can be completed online via the applicant's insurance company. While individuals can apply independently, the Ministry of Justice's Legal Aid system offers free assistance from lawyers representing applicants.

Specific online forms are available for the families of the deceased, released hostages, and families of those taken hostage. Since October 7, the Legal Aid system has opened over 3,600 cases related to the war, including those involving the families of fallen soldiers.

The comprehensive legal support provided under the "Swords of Iron" war initiative includes assistance with personal status matters, obtaining benefits from the National Insurance Institute (Bituah Leumi) or the Ministry of Defense, resolving financial issues with banks, housing concerns, insurance claims, guardianship, and matters concerning minors.
