Ultra-Orthodox MK Rules Out Supporting Government Negotiating Land for Peace

Member of Knesset Meir Porush of the United Torah Judaism party has stated that his party cannot politically support a government led by Benny Gantz, citing the religious and public stance of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Porush made these remarks at a "Making Peace" conference in Kfar Chabad, organized by the Chabad Hasidic Association.

During the event, Porush read from a letter attributed to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, which he claimed included the Rebbe's handwritten annotations. According to Porush, the letter explicitly addresses political negotiations and their consequences, stating that it is forbidden to support a party that negotiates with Arabs over the return of territories from the "holy land." Porush emphasized that the very willingness to engage in such negotiations, or the possibility of returning areas in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, carries the danger of endangering lives.

Porush stressed that this position has "not changed at all" and therefore, a party acting in this manner should not be allowed to form a government, nor should it rely on the support of Haredi factions operating under these directives. He concluded by saying he felt it was important to read this at the conference, which was presenting the Rebbe's teachings.
