Omer Adam Alters Controversial Lyric in Hit Song
Israeli pop star Omer Adam has modified a lyric in his popular 2018 song "Banim Tovim" (Good Boys), which had previously drawn criticism from LGBTQ+ and transgender communities. The original line, "We discovered in Thailand that the girls aren't exactly girls," was deemed offensive and dismissive towards transgender women.
In a newly released duet version of the song with Idan Raichel, intended for upcoming NEXT performances, the controversial line has been changed. While the specific new wording is not detailed, the alteration reflects a shift from the original.
This change is not entirely new. Over the years, in response to public backlash, Adam had already begun altering his live performances of the song. He would often lower the microphone during the disputed lyric, allowing the audience to sing it, or sometimes skip the line altogether. The updated recording alongside Raichel solidifies this change, suggesting a gradual evolution in addressing the problematic lyric rather than a single, sudden decision.
