European Basketball Analysts Question 5 Player Moves in EuroLeague

A European basketball analysis website, BasketNews, has identified five player acquisitions in the EuroLeague that they believe are ill-suited for their new teams. The analysis, published by Sport 5, comes as the EuroLeague season is set to begin next week.

Among the players highlighted is Kenneth Faried, who joined Baskonia after a stint with Panathinaikos. Despite a strong start last season, Faried struggled later on. BasketNews questions his ability to play a significant role for Baskonia at age 36, suggesting he is more effective in short bursts. Interestingly, the analysis notes that Maccabi Tel Aviv might have found a role for him as an energy player.

Thomas Straznski's move to Hapoel Tel Aviv is also scrutinized. BasketNews suggests that while the move is intriguing, Hapoel may not have needed a player like Straznski, especially considering Chris Jones's previous role. They propose that Straznski would have been a better fit under coach Sarunas Jasikevicius at Fenerbahce, where he could have a defined role off the bench. However, they acknowledge that coach Dimitris Itoudis's plans for Straznski at Hapoel remain unclear.

The analysis also covers Georgios Papagiannis, who is returning to Anadolu Efes after an injury. BasketNews believes he would have been a better fit for his former team, Panathinaikos, rather than Anadolu Efes where he faces competition from other centers. For Gabriele Procida, continuing with Real Madrid is questioned, with Virtus Bologna suggested as a more suitable destination where he could secure more playing time and develop his potential.

Finally, Trent Forrest's transition to Fenerbahce after two solid seasons with Baskonia is deemed questionable. The analysis suggests that a team like Valencia or Paris might have offered him a larger role and immediate impact, similar to his success at Baskonia, given Fenerbahce's star-studded roster.
