Israeli MedTech Firm FIZE Medical Raises $20 Million for Kidney Monitoring Tech
Israeli medical technology startup FIZE Medical has successfully raised $20 million in its Series B funding round. The investment was led by Japanese medical device company Asahi Kasei Medical, with participation from Rapha Capital Management, which also led the company's previous funding round. This latest infusion brings the total investment in FIZE Medical to $50 million, following a $14 million round two years ago.
The funding coincides with FIZE Medical's entry into the Japanese market, where Asahi Kasei Medical, a specialist in dialysis products, will serve as the distributor for FIZE's technology. The company has developed a solution for continuous monitoring of kidney function and fluid balance in critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICUs). Kidney function is a vital sign, and FIZE's system provides real-time data to assess a patient's condition.
Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) affects approximately 50% of ICU patients, leading to mortality rates exceeding 20%. Early detection of AKI through FIZE's system is expected to significantly reduce morbidity and mortality. Several Israeli hospitals, including Soroka and Beilinson, are already using the technology, with Sheba Medical Center slated to adopt it soon. Currently, 60 ICU beds in Israel are equipped with FIZE's solution.
The newly raised capital will also support FIZE Medical's expansion into the American and European markets, following the acquisition of necessary regulatory approvals. Founded in 2019, with initial development dating back to 2011 by Noam Levin, the company is led by CEO Dror Zarem, a former executive at companies like Ophir Optronics and VisionMap. FIZE Medical currently employs 40 people.
