Kamala Harris to Appear With Anti-Israel Senate Candidate

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to appear at a campaign event for Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan next week, according to Harris's team, which confirmed the plan to NBC. El-Sayed, a doctor and son of Egyptian immigrants, is running in a highly competitive race for a Senate seat and has taken extreme anti-Israel positions, including refusing to recognize Israel's right to exist and calling Israel's military campaign in Gaza a "genocide." He has also described the Israeli government as "evil."

The support from Harris, considered a potential 2028 presidential contender, highlights a perceived shift in the Democratic Party's stance on Israel. Harris's office stated that "it is essential that we flip the Senate so we can lower costs and take on Donald Trump's corruption." This endorsement follows Harris's previous support for El-Sayed in August after he won the Democratic primary against U.S. Representative Haley Stevens, a strong supporter of Israel.

El-Sayed expressed excitement about campaigning with Harris. His race against former Republican Congressman Mike Rogers has intensified recently, with El-Sayed criticizing Rogers as corrupt. On the opposing political side, Vice President JD Vance called El-Sayed "evil."

El-Sayed has also faced criticism for receiving support from and appearing with controversial streamer Hasan Piker during his primary campaign. El-Sayed has made Israel a central issue, vowing to change the Democratic Party's approach to Jerusalem.
