Tel-Hai University Approved for First Doctoral Program in Northern Israel

The Council for Higher Education has approved the launch of the first-ever doctoral program at Tel-Hai University in Kiryat Shmona, a significant step for the institution and the northern region. The program, which will offer a Ph.D. in Education, marks a milestone for Tel-Hai, which was recently recognized as a full university. The decision follows a recommendation from the specialized committee for education, teaching, spirit, and arts, chaired by Dr. Revika Vademani, after a thorough review of the program and the necessary academic and research infrastructure.

University President Prof. Eliezer Shalev expressed excitement, calling the opening of the doctoral program a "historic and formative moment" that fulfills the vision of Tel-Hai as a university dedicated to developing the Galilee and Golan Heights. He emphasized that focusing on education for the Ph.D. is a value statement, as quality education is foundational for social resilience, reducing gaps, and fostering demographic and economic growth in the north. Shalev stated that graduates will not only research educational realities but also become leaders shaping the future of education and communities in the region and across Israel.

Dr. Maya Logasi-Ben Hamo, Director-General of the Council for Higher Education, congratulated the university, linking the academic achievement to the pressing needs of the north. She noted that the program is crucial for establishing Tel-Hai as a research institution and strengthening academia in the north. Logasi-Ben Hamo added that developing academic research centers in the Galilee and deepening their connection to the education system is particularly important at this time, and the program will train new researchers, expand knowledge, and contribute to the development of Israel's education system.

Tel-Hai University is now awaiting approval for additional doctoral programs in Psychology, Biotechnology, and Nutritional Sciences.
