Israel's Mediterranean Coast Water Murky After Phytoplankton Bloom

This weekend, September 17-19, Israel's coastal areas will experience hot weather with very warm water. Jellyfish are scarce along the Mediterranean coast. More than two weeks after an unusual phytoplankton bloom began, the water off Israel's southern and central Mediterranean coast remains unusually murky with a greenish-yellow hue. North of Hadera, the water is mostly clear. Lifeguards are present on official beaches, and swimming at unguarded beaches is prohibited, though many people disregard this rule. Prolonged sun exposure is not recommended, and sunscreen should be applied before going to the beach. Daytime temperatures along the Mediterranean coast will be 30-31 degrees Celsius, with water temperatures at 30 degrees Celsius and wave heights up to 1 meter. In Eilat, daytime temperatures will range from 36-41 degrees Celsius, with water temperatures at 27 degrees Celsius and waves up to 0.6 meters, though occasional larger swells are possible. On the shores of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), daytime temperatures will be 31-38 degrees Celsius, with water temperatures at 30 degrees Celsius and waves up to 0.6 meters. The Dead Sea will see daytime temperatures of 33-38 degrees Celsius, with water temperatures at 30 degrees Celsius and waves up to 0.6 meters.
