New Investor Discovered Stock Market at 26, Built Business with Profits
Yair Megid, a 32-year-old entrepreneur from Givat Shmuel, Israel, shared his journey into the stock market, which began at age 26. Megid, who owns a chain of learning centers for teenagers, attributes his drive for success to growing up in a large family with financial challenges. He started working at 13 and saved diligently, eventually using his savings and investment profits to launch his business, "Kesem," which provides math and English tutoring, inspired by his own childhood inability to afford private lessons.
Megid's initial exposure to investing came from a YouTube video by Micha Stocks, which sparked his interest in making his money work for him. He spent 18 months immersing himself in Stocks' free educational content before making his first investments through the accessible Pepper Invest app. He now uses the Blink trading platform for its ease of use and control.
His investment portfolio is currently divided, with 65% in indices like the S&P 500 and Russell 2000, and 35% in individual stocks, notably Palantir, and Bitcoin-tracking indices. Megid prefers a balanced approach, enjoying the dynamism of individual stocks while acknowledging the long-term stability of indices. He has achieved a 40% return on his portfolio over the past five years, reinvesting profits into his business and using them as a financial cushion.
Megid emphasizes learning from market experiences, such as avoiding buying at peaks and cultivating patience. He aims to improve his skills in technical analysis, particularly chart reading, while continuing to learn about the stock market, which he believes is a lifelong learning process. He recently recommended following Rubrik, a cybersecurity company, citing its impressive post-IPO performance.
