Israel Explores Leveraging Saudi-Houthi Conflict for Regional Cooperation

Israel is currently engaged in discussions to determine if the ongoing conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebels in the Arabian Peninsula can be leveraged to enhance cooperation with Saudi Arabia. Officials are examining how Saudi Arabia's current predicament might lead to increased collaboration between the two nations, particularly in light of perceived shifts in American foreign policy. Israel believes it has capabilities to offer assistance to Saudi Arabia should the need arise.

These discussions also involve exploring whether understandings similar to those predating October 7th can be reached with the Saudis. Israel is actively pursuing strengthened regional alliances through military diplomacy, focusing on nations threatened by Iran and the Houthis. While Israel aims to avoid direct confrontation with the Houthis, it is simultaneously working to build robust regional coalitions.

A significant concern arising from these deliberations is the possibility that the current situation might pressure Saudi Arabia into reaching an agreement with the Houthis. Such a deal, while potentially ending the conflict in the Arabian Peninsula, could leave Israel isolated in its confrontation with the Yemeni rebels.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that U.S. officials met with Houthi representatives in Oman over the weekend. During this meeting, the Houthis reportedly stated they have no intention of attacking American or Israeli vessels, nor any commercial ships, with the exception of those belonging to Saudi Arabia. They also affirmed their commitment to the existing ceasefire agreement with the United States.
