IDF Chief of Staff: Hezbollah Disarmament Not Possible via Lebanese Government Deal
IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi visited Division 91 on Tuesday, accompanied by Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo and other senior officials. Kochavi stated that the campaign is not over and significant operational achievements have been made, weakening the Hezbollah terrorist organization. The IDF is determined to clear the area south of the Litani River of Hezbollah presence while pursuing the overarching goal of disarming the group.
However, Kochavi emphasized that this disarmament objective cannot be advanced through a desirable agreement with the Lebanese government as long as the Lebanese army does not significantly improve its effectiveness on the ground. He indicated that the IDF's efforts to achieve these goals are ongoing.
