Israeli Police Dismantle International Prostitution Ring

Israeli police have dismantled a sophisticated prostitution ring that allegedly lured women from former Soviet bloc countries to Israel under the guise of tourism and then forced them into sex work. The operation, which involved complex cooperation with foreign agents, targeted vulnerable women, including mothers with difficult life stories.

According to Superintendent Shiran Menashe Amster, who led the investigation, the ringleaders, two Israeli men aged in their 30s and 40s, used social media to contact potential victims. They promised significant financial earnings and instructed the women on how to conceal their intentions, including deleting provocative photos from their phones and not carrying condoms.

The investigation began after intelligence was shared by Israel's intelligence division and the Israeli police representative in Russia. For months, the probe operated covertly both in Israel and abroad, utilizing two local agents in the foreign country. Israeli investigators were dispatched to the country where the agent operated to conduct physical investigations.

During the investigation, authorities identified four active women involved in the ring, who were housed in various locations across Israel. Police estimate the ring's financial turnover approached one million shekels, with suspicions that the actual amount could be higher. The women were treated as victims, and authorities offered them welfare support and access to shelters, though some refused assistance.

Superintendent Amster expressed personal distress over the case, emphasizing the emotional toll of dealing with such exploitation, particularly when the victims are mothers trying to support their children. The phenomenon is described as nationwide and ongoing, with police working around the clock to combat it.
