Israel's Health Ministry said a person suspected of having Ebola is being treated in isolation under procedures for high-risk contagious diseases. Laboratory testing is underway, and the ministry expects the full investigation and a final result to take about 48 hours.
The ministry stressed that this is only a suspicion at this stage and that no confirmed Ebola case has been diagnosed in Israel.
An epidemiological investigation is also being carried out to identify anyone who may have been in contact with the patient. The ministry said it will reach out directly and personally to anyone who needs to be informed.
The ministry added that Ebola is not airborne. It spreads through direct contact with a symptomatic patient, or with blood and bodily fluids.
