Israeli Police Inform Hebron Family of Prisoner's Death

Israeli police informed the family of 21-year-old prisoner Moataz Al-Atrash from Hebron on Wednesday of his death inside Israeli jails, without providing details on the circumstances. The family stated they had not received confirmation from any Palestinian source, and that a recently released prisoner who was with Al-Atrash confirmed he was well.

According to Al-Atrash's brother, Basha Al-Atrash, Israeli police from the Kiryat Arba settlement in Hebron contacted their father and summoned him. Police informed the father of his son's death but offered no further information or clarification on the circumstances. They also requested the father sign documents for the transfer of the body to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute.

Family members expressed surprise, noting that a prisoner released Tuesday, who shared a cell with Al-Atrash in Ofer Prison, had stated he was fine. Al-Atrash's brother added that Moataz was arrested last October and placed under administrative detention, and was due to complete his second administrative detention period on October 7. He was born in 2005.

Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups, including the Palestinian Prisoner Affairs Commission and the Prisoner Club, have not yet issued any statement regarding Moataz Al-Atrash.
