Lapid Rejects Rotation Deal With Netanyahu, Demands PM's Departure

Opposition leader Yair Lapid has declared that his party will not agree to any rotation of the prime minister's office with Benjamin Netanyahu, insisting that the current premier must leave office. Lapid, speaking in an interview with Ynet, outlined his vision for Israel's political future and his party's stance ahead of upcoming elections.

Lapid addressed the potential for a rotation between Netanyahu and Gadi Eisenkot, a scenario reportedly being discussed within the Likud party. "I am horrified when I hear about the idea of rotation. We will not support this. I am speaking here on my own behalf, on behalf of Bennett, on behalf of the entire party. We will not agree to any rotation with Netanyahu. He must go home," Lapid stated. He argued that given the country's current "terrible state," those who have been governing should step down rather than consider power-sharing arrangements.

The former prime minister also commented on his party's internal dynamics, including the merger of his Yesh Atid party with Naftali Bennett's party into the "BeYahad" bloc, which has generated debate. He also acknowledged the generational transition occurring within Yesh Atid.

When asked about Gadi Eisenkot's continued support in polls, Lapid expressed that he would not criticize his potential partner and conveyed confidence in future cooperation with Eisenkot after the election results are finalized and coalition talks begin.

This stance comes as Lapid has previously accused Prime Minister Netanyahu of being warned about a potential threat before the October 7, 2023, attack but failing to take necessary action.
