Activist Sajoood Badran Denies Assaulting Police After Arrest at Majd al-Krum Protest
Political and social activist Sajoood Badran stated that she was arrested during a protest in Majd al-Krum, called by popular groups in solidarity with the town's residents. She confirmed she was chanting with other participants before police apprehended her. Badran noted she was not the only one arrested, mentioning the detention of activist Alon-Lee Green, who was appearing in court in Acre at the time. Badran was later released under conditions for five days and expressed surprise at the official charges, which she claims include assaulting police, obstructing their work, and insulting officers.
During her interrogation, Badran denied assaulting any police officers, asserting her actions were limited to chanting. She specified that one chant she recited was a verse by poet Hanna Ibrahim. Badran highlighted that her participation in such protests is not new and that previous arrests have not deterred her activism. She stated that police justified her arrest by saying she "maintained the situation" during the protest, which she believes is a tactic used to detain activists.
Badran, a member of the Communist Front and Youth party and a special education teacher, believes she can balance her political activities with her teaching career. She affirmed her intention to continue participating in future protests, noting the significant public turnout at the Majd al-Krum demonstrations. She also denied being assaulted during her detention and stated she left alone after her release.
Concluding her remarks, Badran emphasized her unwavering commitment to her political and social activism, declaring she will continue "always and forever."
