Eden Harel Shares Parenting Insights on Faith and Free Will

Israeli media personality Eden Harel revealed personal experiences regarding religious upbringing and children's choices in a recent podcast episode. Speaking on "Conversations from Eden," Harel discussed the challenges parents face when guiding their children toward religious observance, particularly when a child's path diverges from parental expectations.

Harel shared an anecdote about attempting to steer one of her sons towards a specific religious school, the Bnei Akiva yeshiva. Contrary to her hopes, this pressure led to him becoming religiously distant. This experience prompted Harel to re-evaluate her approach to imparting faith and values, concluding that coercion does not always yield the desired spiritual outcome.

In contrast, Harel described a different approach with her elder son, granting him more autonomy in his religious journey. This son eventually chose to deepen his religious commitment, becoming what Harel described as an "ultra-Orthodox Haredi" individual. The contrasting experiences of her sons highlighted for Harel the personal nature of each child's faith path and the absence of a universal formula for religious development.

During the podcast, Harel also touched upon her close friendship with Aya Kramer, another public figure who underwent a religious return. She humorously noted that their private conversations are far more relaxed than their public personas suggest, joking about the potential shock if others witnessed their uninhibited interactions. Harel also affirmed that she does not erase her past life, including her time working for MTV, viewing it as an integral part of her current identity. She shared an instance of singing Alanis Morissette songs in her car before delivering a lecture on her journey to Judaism, emphasizing that both aspects are components of her identity.
