Rare Peregrine Falcon Rescued After Being Hit by Car Near Acre

A rare female peregrine falcon, found injured near Acre in early September, is being treated at the wildlife hospital at the Ramat Gan Safari. The bird was discovered lying on its back by the roadside and was subsequently transported to the safari's veterinary facility. Wildlife experts believe the falcon likely sustained its injuries from a collision with a vehicle.

Initial examinations revealed trauma to the bird's legs and chest, with suspected fractures in the pelvis and elbow joint. She was administered pain medication, intravenous fluids, and received specialized bandages for her legs. In recent days, her condition has improved significantly. She can now stand steadily, is responsive to her surroundings, and is eating independently.

The peregrine falcon is classified as critically endangered in Israel, with the nesting population estimated at fewer than 50 adult individuals. The species was once thought to be extinct in the region but has recently begun nesting in Israel again. Before being released back into the wild, the falcon must regain weight and undergo flight rehabilitation.
