Memorial Site Honors Eitan Shagi, Renowned Educator and Sports Pioneer in Ra'anana

The Ra'anana Municipality held a ceremony this week to unveil a new memorial site dedicated to the memory of Eitan Shagi, a beloved local figure, educator, and sports activist. The memorial is located on Keren Hayesod Street, near the city's shooting range, a place where Shagi was active for many years, transforming it into a leading sports and values center.

Shagi, whose parents were among the founders of the settlement who arrived in 1928, was a key figure in shaping Ra'anana's identity. He served as a combat soldier in the 890th Paratrooper Battalion, dedicated many years to teaching generations of students, and laid the groundwork for the local sports scene. His notable contributions include establishing the first sports fields at the Maccabi pool, leading activities in the "Maccabi Tza'ir" youth movement, and developing the sport of shooting in the city while instilling values of excellence and discipline.

The dedication ceremony was attended by Mayor Chaim Broide, city officials, Shagi's family members, and numerous residents. Mayor Broide remarked that Shagi served as a symbol and role model for the local community, emphasizing that his educational and sporting legacy will remain an integral part of Ra'anana's historical narrative.
