Ashdod Intensifies Enforcement on Electric Scooter and Bicycle Violations

The Ashdod Municipality has ramped up its enforcement efforts against violations involving electric scooters and bicycles, issuing 44 tickets in a single day as part of an expanded, ongoing program. This initiative, led by the municipal supervision department, aims to address safety risks, protect riders and pedestrians, and ultimately save lives.

The enhanced program, a joint decision by Aryeh Lalush, head of the Operations Administration, and Malki Aniger, manager of the Municipal Supervision Department, is now a permanent fixture of the city's routine. Lalush stated that the upgrade is not a temporary campaign but a "life-saving routine" designed to mitigate dangers on the roads. Alongside enforcement, the municipality is continuing its public awareness campaign, urging riders to wear helmets and adhere to riding rules to prevent serious injuries.

Fines issued ranged from NIS 250 to NIS 1,000, with the highest penalty imposed for riding without a helmet. City officials emphasized that even seemingly minor falls can lead to severe injuries and lengthy rehabilitation, underscoring the importance of helmet use. Inspectors are not only issuing tickets but also educating riders about their offenses and associated dangers, encouraging safer practices.

The municipality noted that many riders were observed adhering to the law, and they wish to encourage this responsible behavior to become a consistent habit for all cyclists.
