Supermarket CEO Caught on Tape Calling Public 'Crap' Amid Price-Fixing Charges
Eyal Ravid, CEO of the Victory supermarket chain, long perceived as a fighter against the high cost of living, is now facing accusations of price-fixing. Newly revealed recordings from a "HaMakor" (The Source) investigative report capture Ravid making controversial remarks about the Israeli public and business practices.
In one recording, Ravid is heard speaking with Adi Strauss, co-owner of the Strauss Group, referring to the Israeli public as "kaka" (crap). He is quoted as saying, "The people forget everything. When you need to take, you take." Ravid also advised, "If you need to raise prices, raise them. Don't have mercy on anyone."
Ravid's public image as a consumer advocate has been challenged by these revelations, especially given the ongoing price-fixing allegations against him. The report suggests a stark contrast between his public persona and his private conversations.
The "HaMakor" investigation is set to air the full recordings on Reshet 13, promising further insights into Ravid's business dealings and his views on consumerism and pricing strategies in Israel.
