Netanyahu Ally Slams Legal System, Vows Reform

Attorney David Peter, recently placed 16th on the Likud party's Knesset list, appeared on the "HaPatriotim" program hosted by Yinon Magal, expressing a sense of mission after accepting the political appointment. He criticized the justice system and law enforcement agencies involved in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's trial, describing their actions as "criminality." Peter, who stated he grew up in poverty and collected second-hand clothes, emphasized that his values of Zionism and love for Israel superseded financial considerations. He recounted a meeting with Netanyahu where the Prime Minister asked him to join the "effort," which Peter interpreted as a call to serve the nation above personal gain.

Peter specifically targeted what he termed "criminality" by law enforcement, referencing recent dramatic testimonies in Netanyahu's trial. He alleged that senior police officers engaged in improper, covert collaborations with journalists to fabricate investigations and circumvent legal limitations. Peter characterized these actions as an "attack on democracy" aimed at politically undermining an elected leader through illicit means. He also criticized the judges' passive conduct, arguing that the severity of these revelations should lead to an immediate acquittal in the trial.

Looking ahead, Peter addressed the judicial reform debate, advocating for a comprehensive and bold plan to fix the legal system rather than piecemeal solutions. He stated that the ruling party has a duty to present such a plan to the public. The ultimate goal, he explained, is to restore political freedom and citizens' fundamental trust in equality before the law, by addressing systemic issues within the justice system.
