Arab-Israeli Photographer Handles Sinwar's Rifle at IDF Spoils Exhibit

A video documented by Arab-Israeli photographer and journalist Said Mahajna from an exhibition of spoils of war and military equipment assembled by the IDF following the October 7th attack has sparked widespread reactions on social media. The footage, which circulated extensively on Palestinian channels and in Gaza, shows Mahajna touring the exhibit, closely documenting captured items from Gaza.

Among the items displayed are an RPG rocket and an explosive device seized in the Strip. Mahajna is seen holding and presenting these to the camera. He also handles personal belongings attributed to Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, including his wristwatch, sneakers, and military vest.

In a particularly striking moment, Mahajna picks up Sinwar's personal Kalashnikov rifle, proudly displaying it with a smile and exclaiming excitedly that he is "the first to hold this weapon." The video has generated a wave of responses online.

While Palestinian channels showed users surprised to see an Arab journalist handling Sinwar's belongings and initially questioning the filming location, the documentation drew sharp criticism in Israel. Critics questioned the manner in which the weapons and items were presented and the seemingly sympathetic tone with which Mahajna documented the military equipment.
