NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Eyes European Expansion, Seeks EuroLeague Partnership

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced significant progress in the league's plans for European expansion, calling it a "historic opportunity" to elevate the sport on the continent. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Silver indicated that the NBA is actively engaged in discussions with the EuroLeague, emphasizing that a unified approach would be mutually beneficial.

"We are making progress and having conversations with the EuroLeague," Silver stated. "We don't have to join forces, but it's better for all of us to work together as a united front. It will be good for the league if we join forces." He expressed a desire to introduce a competitive element to the European market as early as next summer, even if the initial offering differs from the final product.

Silver acknowledged that the process has taken longer than anticipated but reiterated the immense potential to reshape European sports. He suggested that updates on these plans could be expected in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Maccabi Tel Aviv Chairman Shimon Mizrahi commented on the NBA's European ambitions. He noted that the NBA was expected to submit a formal proposal regarding its talks with the EuroLeague, with FIBA also reportedly involved. Mizrahi indicated that no offer has been presented yet, and any proposal would be discussed at an owners' meeting scheduled for October 5.
