Jewish National Fund Dismantles Structures Amid Palestinian Outcry in Galilee

The Jewish National Fund (JNF) has decided to dismantle and relocate temporary structures erected in the Galilee region, between Majd al-Krum and Gilon, following days of protests and accusations of establishing an illegal outpost. The decision was made during an emergency JNF meeting on Tuesday.

The structures, including tents, cables, and water and electricity infrastructure, were protested by approximately 500 residents of Majd al-Krum. They claimed the move was an attempt to establish facts on the ground and create an outpost, potentially harming access to their olive groves ahead of the harvest season.

In response, the leaseholders of the land stated that the area was leased from the JNF solely for sheep grazing. They clarified that volunteers were setting up a compound for the flock, not a permanent settlement. The JNF will re-evaluate the possibility of re-establishing the structures later, depending on whether a sheep flock is present in the area.

During a solidarity rally for the residents of Majd al-Krum, protest activist Alon Lee Green was arrested on suspicion of assaulting police officers. Concurrently, representatives of the residents announced they would investigate the legality of the permits with the Israel Land Authority and relevant authorities.

Amidst the tension, 260 Jewish and Arab local leaders and social activists sent a letter to the JNF chairman, urging action to prevent escalation and preserve shared life in the Galilee. They warned that establishing a presence with a nationalist agenda could lead to a permanent presence and a dangerous precedent if not addressed.
