Miss Israel Declines Meeting with New York Mayor Over Stance on Israel

Miss Israel 2026, Daniel Yablonsky, visited New York City Hall during her trip but refused a potential meeting with Mayor Zoran Mamdani. The offer for the meeting came from her team, but Yablonsky made a conscious decision to decline, according to JNS. She stated that while open to dialogue, she did not want to provide a platform for someone who does not support her country or its people's right to exist.

Mamdani has made controversial statements during his election campaign, and his administration has criticized pro-Israel events, raising concerns among Jewish leaders about rising hate incidents. Instead of meeting with the mayor, Yablonsky met with Eric Dinowitz, a New York City Council member and the chair of its Jewish caucus. Dinowitz emphasized the importance of such visits in combating the demonization of Israel and Jewish people, noting a recent surge in antisemitic crimes in the city.

During their discussion, Yablonsky and Dinowitz addressed issues concerning the support of Jewish youth, students, and medical professionals facing pressure in educational and professional settings. Yablonsky also met with other American politicians, including New York State Representative Mikhail Novakhov, and attended Fashion Week events in Manhattan.

Yablonsky expressed her mission to openly represent her people and history on major global platforms, fostering partnerships with leaders committed to translating dialogue into tangible actions.
