Israel Aerospace Industries Unveils New Tactical Vehicle for German Special Forces

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has presented the first TAHR tactical vehicle, based on its Elta ZD platform, to Germany's special forces. The vehicle, manufactured in Germany by Flensburg Technology Systems (FTS), a joint venture between IAI's Elta division and German firm FFG, has been customized to meet the specific operational requirements of the German military.

The TAHR is a lightweight, air-transportable tactical vehicle designed for special operations forces. It is offered in two configurations: a light, air-transportable tactical vehicle for combat units and a compatible air-transportable support vehicle. Both versions are built on a highly mobile and capable platform that has proven itself in combat and operational service, with modifications tailored for special forces needs.

The vehicle features an open architecture and high integration, providing a wide field of view and the ability to incorporate various weapon systems. Its design allows for two vehicles to be transported simultaneously within a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, enabling rapid operational readiness upon landing.

In October 2025, FTS signed a framework agreement with Germany's Federal Office for Defence Equipment, BAAINBw, for the supply of up to 200 vehicles. The presentation of the first vehicle occurred ahead of the planned schedule.

IAI CEO Guy Barlev stated that IAI views Germany as a strategic partner for long-term joint defense capabilities, emphasizing collaboration across air, sea, and land domains. Elta CEO Dror Bar highlighted the milestone as a reflection of the close industrial cooperation and the ability to precisely meet customer operational needs with advanced, proven platforms.
