Maccabi Tel Aviv Pursues EuroLeague Return to Israel

Maccabi Tel Aviv has formally requested the EuroLeague to allow the team to resume playing its home games in Israel, according to club chairman Shimon Mizrahi. Mizrahi revealed the club's efforts during a press conference held Tuesday ahead of the Super Cup derby against Hapoel Tel Aviv. The club has sent three letters of support from the Israeli President, Minister of Sports, and Police Commissioner to the EuroLeague, and a meeting with the league's chairman is scheduled in four days.

Mizrahi emphasized that the club is making significant efforts to bring EuroLeague games back to Israel, citing the current security calm and the return of all airlines to the country. He also pointed to Dubai's readiness to host games as a precedent. Despite regional developments that may complicate matters, Mizrahi expressed hope for a positive response.

The press conference also touched upon the team's roster for the upcoming 2026/27 season, with Mizrahi noting the retention of key players from last season's championship and cup-winning squad, alongside new additions and the return of Bonzie Colson. Coach Oded Katash spoke about the team's resilience during their time away from home, attributing their success to the support of their fans and their strong team dynamic.

Club CEO Avi Ben-Tal announced a record number of season ticket holders, exceeding 9,250, nearing a sell-out. He highlighted the club's ambition for excellence and efforts to enhance the game-day experience for fans. Ben-Tal also addressed internal club matters, stating that any disagreements within the management stem from passion and commitment, and do not impede the team's work.
