Shas Candidate Faces Challenge Over Alleged Campaign Violations

The "Itim" organization has filed a petition with the Central Elections Committee demanding the disqualification of Dror Amos, the sixth candidate on the Shas party list. Amos, who currently heads the Haifa Religious Council, is accused of failing to resign from his position 100 days prior to his candidacy, as required by law.

In parallel, "Itim" is calling on the Ministry of Religious Services to immediately place Amos on unpaid leave. The organization argues that using public service roles as a stepping stone for political advancement erodes public trust. Rabbi Shaul Farber, chairman and founder of "Itim," stated, "When a system meant to provide state service to all citizens becomes a political springboard, public trust collapses."

Attorney Yair Mavorach Shag from "Itim's" legal department criticized the "distorted norm" where political appointees enter Knesset lists with zero cooling-off periods, calling it "a slap in the face to public service."
