Iran’s Foreign Ministry responded on Friday, shortly after reports that the United States had conveyed a message to Tehran saying Israel did not intend to further escalate its attacks in Lebanon. Tehran blamed Washington for the escalation and suggested it would continue acting to protect Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said, “The direct responsibility for Israel’s crimes in Lebanon lies with the United States. So does the responsibility for the consequences of the Israeli attacks on regional security.” He also warned of “consequences” for Middle East security.
Baghaei added, “Iran will take all necessary measures to protect its interests and its allies.” The statement came amid the current escalation, with no additional details provided yet.
