Journalists' Union Criticized Over Stance on Film 'NezA'

The Journalists and Writers Union has joined other creative organizations in expressing shock over threats directed at the creators of the film 'NezA'. The union stated that freedom of expression is intended to allow discussion of challenging ideas and that without it, Israeli democracy cannot survive.

In response, journalist Amit Segal sharply criticized the union, calling its supporters "Hamas propaganda ministry supporters" and expressing shame for anyone funding them. Another journalist, Noam Amir, stated that the actions were not freedom of expression but freedom to insult and defame.

This is not the first time the Journalists and Writers Union has been at the center of controversy. Previously, the union expressed concern over the closure of Al Jazeera's offices in Ramallah and the confiscation of its equipment. At the time, the union questioned the military order, citing a lack of transparency and suggesting the move appeared to be a publicity stunt. They also argued that closing media outlets via military order, rather than a public and fair legal process, should concern every journalist and citizen in a democracy.
